PostPosted: Sat Dec 08, 2007 9:32 pm    Post subject: X server error with stifb on hppa Reply with quote

On my 735/125, when trying to start X, I have a problem with the combinaion of the fbdev driver from X and the stifb driver from the kernel which prevents X from starting.
When firing up X via startx, I get
Code:
hp ~ # startx
xauth:  creating new authority file /root/.serverauth.3005

X Window System Version 1.3.0
Release Date: 19 April 2007
X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0, Release 1.3
Build Operating System: UNKNOWN
Current Operating System: Linux hp 2.6.22-hppa #1 Thu Nov 29 22:26:31 CET 2007 parisc
Build Date: 19 November 2007
        Before reporting problems, check http://wiki.x.org
        to make sure that you have the latest version.
Module Loader present
Markers: (--) probed, (**) from config file, (==) default setting,
        (++) from command line, (!!) notice, (II) informational,
        (WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown.
(==) Log file: "/var/log/Xorg.0.log", Time: Sat Dec  8 22:16:59 2007
(==) Using config file: "/etc/X11/xorg.conf"
(EE) FBDEV(0): FBIOPUT_VSCREENINFO succeeded but modified mode
(EE) FBDEV(0): mode initialization failed

Fatal server error:
AddScreen/ScreenInit failed for driver 0

XIO:  fatal IO error 232 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0"
      after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining.

where the line
Code:
(EE) FBDEV(0): FBIOPUT_VSCREENINFO succeeded but modified mode

seems to be the real problem.
The kernel is built from sys-kernel/hppa-sources-2.6.22, X uses x11-base/xorg-server-1.3.0.0-r2 and x11-drivers/xf86-video-fbdev-0.3.1.
Does anyone have an idea what's going wrong here, or even better, knows how to make X run anyway?

unfortunately no :(
here i only use the C3600 that is equipped with a matrox pci video board
on the old HP712 i remember i had issues with the onboard video card, i don' remember exactly how i fixed it, i remember it has hard :P

so i suggest you to use IRC, to access the freenode network, and to ask about on the #gentoo-hppa channel
i think somebody could fix your issue
