[Solved]RadeonHD how to install

I added VIDEO_CARDS="radeonhd vesa fbdev" in make.conf.
and env-update, emerge -avuDN world, but I found that x11-drivers/xf86-video-radeonhd was not in the emerging list.

Should I have to emerge x11-drivers/xf86-video-radeonhd separately?

Yeah, there isn't any VIDEO_CARDS entry for radeonhd (yet), so you need to emerge xf86-video-radeonhd yourself.

You might also want to include radeon in VIDEO_CARDS, as xf86-video-ati is more stable than the radeonhd driver, and probably performs better than vesa or fbdev.

Also, it might be worth your time grabbing radeonhd from git rather than using the 1.1 release, and I think there's a live git ebuild for it on bugzilla...

Hi all.

I've read at Phoronix that 3D support for R500 had recently been added to the Open Source ati-driver, while DRI had just been added yesterday to the radeonhd driver.

In short: very good news on the Open Source Side of 3D support!
