make.conf - what are acceptable USE flags? [SOLVED]

OK, well, I have been using Gentoo for a while now, though I constantly hear conflicting statements with regards to USE flags in my make.conf.

Just what is the acceptable minimum?

I tend to include pretty much everything that I am likely to use, though have been told this is a bad idea.
The default USE="-gtk -gnome qt3 qt4 kde dvd alsa cdr" I obviously don't use, though is having as few as this acceptable? I run X,flux,apache,mysql,php,ssh

Moved from Installing Gentoo to Portage & Programming.
not about getting gentoo installed, so moved here.

USE flags are for optional support of features, so minimal means disabling all USE flags. A reasonable default is what is set in the profile, so you need not set any USE flags in /etc/make.conf if you're fine with the default flags.
