Hello,

I've got a strange problem trying to emerge some KDE-related packages.
I fresh install and after the system was ready i did an "emerge kde".
Because i have Accept_keywords ~x86 this emerged kde 3.5.9
But kdm was not merged so i wanted to merge it, but portage says

Code:

emerge -pv kdm

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

I don't have a clue why portage wants to merge all these packages and says they are new merges.
I already made an emerge -uDN world but the problem is still there.

kde 3.5.9 seems properly installed if i can trust this
Code:

emerge -pv kde-base/kde

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

[ebuild   R   ] kde-base/kde-3.5.9  USE="accessibility" 0 kB

Total: 1 package (1 reinstall), Size of downloads: 0 kB

Can anyone give me a hint, why i cant emerge kdm 3.5.9 (or any of the packages listed above not pulled in by kde) to my existing kde 3.5.9?
I dont use any overlays or something just a normal ~x86 portage

If you need config files i'll paste them.

thx alot

You see, there are two types of kde installs. There's the monolithic installs (few big packages such as kdebase, kdegraphics, etc) which install all the programs in one shot, and there are also meta installs, which allow you to install each package individually (kdm, konqueror, kuickshow, etc). Once you choose one, you cannot mix the two.

You installed kde-base/kde. This is the monolithic install.
kde-base/kdm belongs to the meta-install. It gets pulled in if you would have installed kde-base/kde-meta.

So anyway, to make the long story short, kdm should already be installed on your system as kde-base/kdebase.

Hope this helps!

AH, i see, then there must be an other reason why it's not starting.

I thought kde would just be a metapackage which pulls in all the others.I should switch to the splited builds anyway.
thx alot and sorry for this dumb question ;)
