kernel 2.5.24 problems w/ keyboard

I've compiled kernel 2.5.24 (With the dj2 patch) but on boot, X tries to start but fails and kicks me back to the CLI. I can't log in using my keyboard and I assume that nothing is picking up my mouse either. I had no problems running 2.5.20 except NTFS support wouldn't compile. Under input devices, for some reason now, keyboard and mouse support is selected. Maybe this has something to do with it? I'm using PS/2 mouse and keyboard. Anyone having the same problem?
