|
|
Hi,
I just updated dbus and it warned that I should run revdep-rebuild , so I did.
It found a couple of broken libs, then at [78%] the cpu usage went 100% the temps started going into the red and impossible to kill it.
closing the terminal did not stop it , neither did shutting down X.
ps showed the runaway process to be lddlibc4 which continued to fail to respond to killall and kill -9.
Only solution reboot Not happy.
It claims to be rewritten version , it is known to be unstable ?
TIA, Gentree. _________________ Linux, because I'd rather own a free OS than steal one that's not worth paying for.

# equery belongs lddlibc4
[ Searching for file(s) lddlibc4 in *... ]
sys-libs/glibc-2.7-r1 (/usr/bin/lddlibc4)
so, that's probably not revdep-rebuild's fault.
[edit] Well, not directly it's fault. _________________ Thomas S. Howard |

well I just rebuilt glibc and that no longer shows as a stalled process but revdep still shits out 78%.
Crap , time for another reboot.
This is just like using windows. _________________ Linux, because I'd rather own a free OS than steal one that's not worth paying for.

OK, after repairing a few holes in my fs I used the old version in /usr/lib/gentoolkit/bin/revdep-rebuild
That managed to get through the job without screwing my system.
Now what was I doing before that time waster ...? _________________ Linux, because I'd rather own a free OS than steal one that's not worth paying for.

http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-672371-highlight-ldlinux.html
might also be related...
@Gentree i also tried to find an old version of revdep-rebuidl at the location you posted. but it is not there... is there a way to get this version also (expect emerging an older version of gentoolkit)??
greets

http://sources.gentoo.org/viewcvs.py/gentoo-x86/
I saw a message during building the package that said if there were problems the old version was at that location. Maybe you need to install an older gentoolkit first if yours is a recent installation.
Otherwise , why not use an older package if the current one is broken?

hmmm, ok, i dont think that the package is broken, cause it runs perfect before todays update.
which version do you use exactly?
shouldn't we open a bugreport for this issue?

at the time of the above post I was using _rc2 , the previous version that was retained would have come from -pre7
As for bug reports, I have given my need for abuse from those who prefer to flame than to fix thier screw ups. I leave that pleasure to others now.
hope the info is useful.

that's a **masked** package! I think you should
file a bug report - that's what software testers
are for _________________ .... there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth

hi albright!
already done: http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=213659
the developers told me that this segfault can be safely ignored...
EDIT: a developer told me to install the 0.2.4_rc3 and run revdep-rebuild with some parameters. take a look at the bugreport... it seems to be fixed!
