Oh, and radeonhd is not a possibility, because it is even slower.

That happens to me too, with every application that uses OpenGL it corrupts the same way as you described, and that is with the new drivers, i'm using Xorg 7.4 too, i tested with the previous drivers and it does not happen, but i also noticed of something, that for now the 32 bit apps do not get corrupted, only the 64 bit ones, i have not tried it on Xorg 7.3, another thing is that these corruptions appear at random times, sometimes glxgears runs fine, and other runs corrupted.

Same problem here
amd64
amd690g (Radeon X1250) onboard graphics (ASUS M2A VM HDMI)
xorg-server 1.3.0.0-r5
going to revert to previous version for now
edit: masking ati-drivers-8.455.2-r1 and emerging 8.455.2 (not -r1) fixed the problem for me
apparently the 8.455.2 ebuild actually fetches the 08-01 drivers (which is not the newest version from february 2008)
so the problem seems to be in the february 08 version of the ati-driver i posted a bug with amd: http://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1051

I also noted that with 8.455.2-r1 two files in /etc/ati get updated: atiogl.xml and signature
maybe this has got something to do with the problem?

I can't get indirect rendering to work, so compiz doesn't work. What options do I need?

did you tried ati-drivers-8.455.2-r1 ?, indirect rendering works for me with that version but it messes everything else for me, and compiz is not working fine with kicker-3.5.9 i believe, because it stopped working fine when i updated to kde-3.5.9

So, I'm not the only one who had issues with those drivers. I'm going to install them right now. Let's see how this works.

Whenever I do startx as a user, it keeps spitting following lines to the console:

(EE) fglrx(1): [DRI] Locking deadlock.

Anyone found a patch for kernel 2.6.25 already?

http://www.phoronix.com/forums/showpost.php?p=24751&postcount=1

Unfortunately with the typical speed of ATI we'll see official support for 2.6.25 maybe with 8.08 or something like that. :(

I haven't, but then again 2.6.25 isn't even released yet ... I know people have a grudge against ATI drivers, but they over they past year they have imporved vastly, support for kernels have been happening quicker, large known issues have been getting fixed and overall they have been improving nicely. Of course it is easy to improve on crap , but I like the direction they are taking.

2.6.24 support was there before the kernel was released stable , you can't get on to companies for not supported testing kernels. If they do great, if they don't well that is why they are called testing

Looks like 8.3 just appeared.
Can anyone verify if it fixes this issue?

Yes, no more opengl corruption, i think this release is a decent one, Textured2D works for me, and opengl, and Compiz (AIGLX) on Xorg-server-1.4.0.90-r3

Just loaded 8.3 with my 3650. As soon as I add Composite true or enables to the extensions screen, X will not start. It says "no screens found". :(

If I turn on AIGLX in the ServerLayout section, the computer freezes as soon as I run fgl_fglxgears.

EDIT: Oops. I forgot to write it as Option "Composite" "true".

When you do not see an ebuild on portage or http://packages.gentoo.org try searching on bugs.gentoo.org, you can download the ebuild from the following link: https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=212449
you can also search for ebuilds on www.gentoo-portage.com.

Ok installed.
No more opengl corruption during roting cube in compiz-fusion but there are some in cover switch. No Xv working or I'm doing something wrong ;/
Is there any other solution to get smooth playback?

Do you have
Code:
Option "TexturedVideo" "on"
? It enables AVIVO IIRC. It helped me, at least.

Anyway, is there an ebuild for the newest ATI driver? (It doesn't seem to be on bugzilla anymore) They added smooth resizing for TexturedVideo in it.

I just copied the latest ebuild, upped the number slightly and changed the file it downloaded to the current one.

I don't recall seeing any with Catalyst 8.3. However I did not run it very long as I had window decoration issues and needed to use the computer. I'm going to try it again though. My card is a 3650.

Thanks for the tip, shouldn't this be documented somewhere? Like the official docs.

yeah, bottom of the ebuild would be nice also. Oh and btw, it improved performance, no diagnal tearing and lowered cpu.

Edit 1:
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=213502

Edit 2:
Added and shifted Options for configuring X

Has anyone tried the suggestions made on this forum page for getting compiz fusion working properly?

Yes i have tried them, in fact.... some of those options i already had on my xorg.conf, the only ones that i have changed are the 'overlays' options ( i had VideoOverlay "on" and changed it to "off" ) and also setup OpenglOverlay "off" and i do not experiment more system crashes, maybe this is coincidence but i hope that the system crashes do not show anymore... by the way, if you use TexturedXrender and Textured2D you can experiment some color corruptions ( what is happens is a transformation some how like instead of showing the colors in RGB it shows them in BGR ), i see this issue on Plasma and on ePSXe SoftX video plugin, according to Ati workers they are already working on it, so let us hope a fix for this arrive soon.

By the way.... for me.... Compiz-Fusion is more usable on each ati-drivers release... i hope this works for the others.

I just tried that like, I already had TextureVideo, but after adding in TLS 1 , Texture2d On and TextureXRender, I have notice an even bigger performance gain.

I am updating this on the gentoo-wiki, and possibly the bug I created to have the information in teh post_inst echo's. And listing these as Experimental.

Also not, to get the Textured2D and TexturedXRender to work, you have Enable it in the Extensions section.
