|
|
In trying to start pulseaudio as a service I simply get !! (/etc/init.d/pulseaudio start) but if I do a pulseaudio -vv everything works fine. Is there something that needs to change in order to get it to start on boot? I have seen on pulseaudio's site that they recommend the followng ln -sf /usr/local/bin/esdcompat /usr/bin/esd, but I don't have a /usr/local/bin/esdcompat. There is a /usr/bin/esdcompat but not in /usr/local. Any ideas? _________________ So many questions so little time.... |

I ended up not starting this as a service and instead start it on a per user basis like is recommended on PulseAudio's site. _________________ So many questions so little time.... |

So, just so I understand, you emerged the pulseaudio packages, left alsasound to start as a service as is normal (starts at boot runlevel), then used a kde autostart as you login to start pulseaudio? _________________ Billy DeVincentis |

I am not using KDE, so I can't speak on how to do it in KDE. I did this with Gnome, so I just added it to my gnome-session. I'd assume it would be basically the same thing in KDE though. _________________ So many questions so little time.... |

Did you notice that there are no icons? Just that ugly empty page? _________________ Billy DeVincentis |

I am not sure what you are referring to, but if it's the PulseAudio apps mine have icons in the Gnome menus. _________________ So many questions so little time.... |

In kde they show a blank page for an icon. _________________ Billy DeVincentis |

Check /var/log/messages for output. I just installed it today and found my installation couldn't load module-x11-publish. Commenting out line 83 in /etc/pulse/default.pa (the line which loads that module) allowed me to start the service.
Not sure if that's reccomended though, technically I don't have a working install yet =)
EDIT: I'm up and running after emerging gst-plugins-pulse |

Do you get the login/logout sounds? for whatever reason I get all the other sounds but not those. _________________ So many questions so little time.... |

For me, it worked only after emerging the utility packages described in the pulseaudio.org site :
Quote: | emerge pavucontrol pavumeter paman padevchooser paprefs |
Then, starting the alsasound daemon (added to boot runlevel for next reboot).
Then, simply typing "pulseaudio -D" (-D is for daemonize after startup), as user, not as root.
Now, my audacious is playing using the pulseaudio daemon server, but still no sound in swfdec (I was hoping this could give me sound in youtube). I'll try to restart firefox just after this post and see if there was missing just a firefox restart...
Hope this helps |

After a first reboot, pulseaudio daemon still refuses to start (default runlevel).
Issuing command "pulseaudio -vv" or "pulseaudio" or even "pulseaudio -D" works only if made first as root (starting as user ends with a log saying that it can't create a directory in /tmp, but as root, the directory can be created and then it works as user...).
However, no more sound comes from audacious with the pulseaudio plugin...
EDIT : finally, after several attemps and one reboot, it seems to work as I was describing in my first post... Forget this second post. |
