I first noticed that something was going on when i couldn't mount the nfs directories. After logging into the server i also realized that its XServer wasn't running.
A simple "emerge" resulted immediately in a segfault message no matter what i tried. Being quite perplexed i rebooted and suddenly everything's working again..
I ran memtest at bootup - doesn't seem to be anything wrong and neither CPU nor RAM are overclocked.
Is that the first sign of an upcoming hardware crash or nothing to worry about?

That depends on what caused the problem. Unfortunately noone can be sure from the info you've given. Did you check the logs for clues? If you didn't get a kernel panic, then it's possible something had leaked virtual memory. Try keeping an eye on memory consumption with free, or top. |
