Actually, the strangeness started with beta 4 r2 (I never tried r1). I built the beta from source using the ebuilds from the mozilla overlay. My problems are numerous.
Firefox displays a blank page on launch even though my settings dictate a home page. If I explicity click Home (from the History menu), I'm taken to the FF branded google page, not my home page. The location bar no longer searches my history when I type. I think it's not seeing any history at all because clicking the drop down arrow has no effect (no list is shown, nothing happens). This no history business is permanent, even after browsing around to many different sites nothing shows up in the list. In fact, the location bar doesn't get updated at all when I navigate to a URL other than the one I typed there. The Back, Forward, Refresh and Stop buttons are always disabled and every tab shows the loading spinner animation even when nothing's loading. My bookmarks are also missing.
All my preferences are exactly as I had them in beta 4; I can view them quite happily too. They just seem to be getting ignored. Oddly enough, FF does recognize my plugins (like Flash) and extensions (like Web Developer) and they work fine. Any ideas?
