Ok lo so ... vi sto tormentando... Ma risolto un problema me ne si presenta subito uno nuovo.
HD USB modello HD530-U http://www.argosy.com.tw/product/hd530.htm
Attivato l'hotplugging, i moduli usb, mass storage device ecc, tuttavia se attacco l'hd alla macchina linux si pianta all'avvio, appena dopo aver montato lo swap. Se invece lo attacco a computer acceso dopo 10 secondi si freeza tuto e sono costretto a resettare (nemmeno staccando l'hd riesco a riguadagnare il controllo di mouse e tastiera)
Che faccio? Sara' incompatibile con linux? Il problema e' che non sono neppure riuscito a trovare che chipset abbia (ammesso che ne abbia uno...)

Prima di attaccare l'hdd fai | Code: | | # kill -USR1 `ps -eaf | grep metalog | grep MASTER | awk '{ print $2 }'` |
Al riavvio, vai a guardare il file /var/log/everything/current e posta quello che trovi di interessante.

Ho eseguito il comando che mi hai dato, ho attaccato il disco e come da copione mi si e' freezato tutto. Ho staccato il disco e ho riavviato: il log contiene soltanto

| forse dipende dal chipset della scheda madre?io ho un hd-usb,formattato in fat32 e lo uso tranquillamente,pure con l'usb 2 tra l'altro,viene visto come sda5 |

Non trovo NULLA nei log che riguardi l'usb... Appena lo metto s ifreeza, probabilmente non ha nemmeno il tempo di scriverlo nei log 
Per il chipset della scheda madre non credo (Intel D815EEA2, non nuovissima ma sicuramente di qualita'), imputerei il malfunzionamento al chipset del disco che e' molto piu' "alla buona" stando a quello che l'avevo pagato

A parte quello che ho messo prima non c'e' altro 
Poi non capisco in base a cosa crei i log... Sono tutti di lunghezza diversa, orari apparentemente senza criterio... boh
