Hi,
Lately, I've tried to run some xvid file under xine and I got message: "Stream uses an unsupported coded Xvid."
It is strange because couple days ago I watched that file.
I tried run that file under vlc also and it is the same: | Code: | [00000258] main decoder error: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `XVID'.
VLC probably does not support this sound or video format. |
Using mplayer I have no problems.
Of course I have got Xvid installed. I tried re-emarge xine-lib but that didn't help. |

I have the same problem. I haven't been able to track down exactly what the problem is, but it definitely started within the last 2 or 3 weeks.
Any time I try to play a video that is encoded with XviD, I get an error message about the codec not being supported. After doing some searching, I found something where someone said to try this

vlc --reset-plugins-cache -vv [media file]

This seems to work, but it's really a beating having to open every movie file on the command line.
Oh, and I've recompiled vlc, xine, and ffmpeg, but have had no success. Here's my emerge --info:
