sgi indy equipped with GFX=XL8/XL24 is able to be used in text console

Code:
NG1: Revision 6, 24 bitplanes, REX3 revision B, VC2 revision A, xmap9 revision A, cmap revision D, bt445 revision D
NG1: Screensize 1280x1024
Console: colour SGI Newport 160x64

text scroll works fine, but what about framebuffer and X11 ?

i know the GFX is connected to the motherboard by a special bus called GIO32, and this complicates everything about direct video board access. Also there is no documentation about.

so is there a solution/idea/discussion about using GFX=XL* as graphical frame buffer ?

Framebuffer, as far as userland is concerned, is simply not possible on XL graphics.

Your only hope for a GUI, is X.org's newport driver.

i my spare time i'm reading the source code of the xf86-newport driver to try to understand how it is working: sgi machines have an interesting way to use X .....

is there any proof of documentation about ?

so there is not ... sources are THE documentation ... and the IRC channel (where it is easy to be banned if you did the wrong question) is the only way to talk about sources

SGI have the documentation, the real question is would they let a member of the public, see them?

ftp://ftp.linux-mips.org/pub/linux/mips/doc/indy is some documentation that was released by SGI. Whether that's got what you're after, I have no idea. A quick scan suggests otherwise.
