|
|
Hello,
I just installed vmware-player-2.0.2.59824, but when I try to run it, I got the following error:
| Code: | | /opt/vmware/player/lib/bin/vmplayer: symbol lookup error: /opt/vmware/player/lib/lib/libvmwareui.so.0/libvmwareui.so.0: undefined symbol: _ZN3Gtk6Widget14get_accessibleEv |
I saw that VMWARE_USE_SHIPPED_GTK=yes vmplayer might help, but it doesn't. I got
| Code: | /usr/share/themes/Clearlooks/gtk-2.0/gtkrc:68: error: unexpected identifier `colorize_scrollbar', expected character `}'
/opt/vmware/player/lib/bin/vmplayer: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/filesystems/libgnome-vfs.so: undefined symbol: g_get_user_special_dir |
I added myself to the vmware group, run vmware-config.pl and did a /etc/init.d/vmware start, but impossible to make it run...
Any help would be appreciated (I was unable to find a topic on this subject on the Gentoo forums...).
Thanks.

| Did Anybody get this error? I made a lot of searches on the gentoo forums and with google, but found nothing that might help solving this problem... |

Same (or better similar) problem here with VMWare Workstation 6.0.2 on AMD64. The message differs but it seems as if this VMWare-version doesn't work with gtk+2.12.1
| Code: | loci@valhalla ~ $ VMWARE_USE_SHIPPED_GTK=force vmware

loci@valhalla ~ $ VMWARE_USE_SHIPPED_GTK=yes vmware

Hi.
I'm having the same issue on ~x86
| Code: | vmplayer
/opt/vmware/player/lib/bin/vmplayer: symbol lookup error: /opt/vmware/player/lib/lib/libvmwareui.so.0/libvmwareui.so.0: undefined symbol: _ZN3Gtk6Widget14get_accessibleEv
|
Remerging vmware-player and vmware-modules does not help. Will be interested in any information to get this working again, and will post if I find a solution elsewhere.
/kiksen
[Edit] Using VMWARE_USE_SHIPPED_GTK=yes vmplayer works for me... [/Edit] |

It works, but not fully... did you try to open an existing virtual machine? Then it crash with the following error:
| Code: | | /opt/vmware/player/lib/bin/vmplayer: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/filesystems/libgnome-vfs.so: undefined symbol: g_get_user_special_dir |

Opening an existing vm works fine for me. I have only one (an XP image) I use for testing purposes, and it worked fine. It seems a little fragile if it behaves differently for you though.

| Please re-emerge libview and libsexy. You probably forgot to re-emerge them after you added the accessibility use flag to gtkmm. You won't need the ugly USE_VMWARE_SHIPPED_GTK hack any more. Hope this helps. |

remerging libview and libsexy made no difference for me.
Remerging vmware-player and vmware-modules afterwords didn't change anything either.

Works fine thanks.
I did not have the accessibility use flag enabled in gtkmm, I added it, re-emerged libsexy and libview and now it works fine! |

Recompiling libsexy & libview after adding accessibility USE flag to gtkmm helps.

Unconfirmed by me.
I re-emerged libsexy and libview, gtkmm already had accessibility-flag, and then emerged app-emulation/vmware-workstation-6.0.2.59824.
Now I get this message with hack and without:
| Code: | process 20443: Attempt to remove filter function 0x2b9386ba4e50 user data 0x93eab0, but no such filter has been added
D-Bus not built with -rdynamic so unable to print a backtrace |

This is unrelated to the original problem posted here. The problem your are having looks to be related to dbus and not missing symbols. Check to see if you are missing the hal and dbus use flags and if you have hal and dbus installed. If i remember correctly vmware requires hal and dbus for device hotpluging, ie when you plug in your usb devices and cdrom. remeber to emerge -uD --newuse world && revdep-rebuild after you add the useflags in. Hope this helps.
Edit:
remember to add yourself to the plugdev group and add hald to the default runlevel. Also startup hald manually if you don't reboot. |

remerging libsexy & libview worked to fix starting up VMware, but trying to open the "Manage Snapshots" tab kills VMware.
Everything works for me with VMWARE_USE_SHIPPED_GTK=yes |

Thanks!
I rebuilt gtkmm with USE=accessibility, rebuilt libsexy, unset VMWARE_USE_SHIPPED_GTK.... all working.
libview isn't required for vmware player, only for workstation 6. |
