Enabling any of the gecko flags will pull firefox or seamonkey, since i wish not to have any of those browsers instaled; this package fails to install.

I decided to allow the install of firefox-bin just to test this package; but even doing that, the ebuild still asks for the non pre-compiled firefox.

If possible it would be great to have this and other ebuild changed when it comes to these details. After all isnt gentoo all about freedom of choice ;) ?
Either free from browser dependency flags or add a few more related to other browsers.
As for me (and many others out there) i use, opera, links/2, elinks and dillo

As an alternative to this News Aggregator for RDF/RSS/CDF/Atom/Echo/etc feeds maybe www.rssowl.org could also be added to portage ?

Thank you for the attention in advance :)

It seems that the developers of Liferea don't support x86_64 see this bugreport, so then there is little that Gentoo-developers can do on this.

Keep in mind that the different browser-use flags just toggle on/off options provided by the upstream code. In this case the program itself uses components/code from firefox or gtkhtml to actually display the news-items. That's also the reason that you need to have a source-compiled browser as the source-code of the browser itself is needed to generate these parts of the Liferea program.

Note that most developers don't follow the forums. If you want to get their attention, bugzilla is the best option.

ps) Your other request can be found in bugzilla. The ebuild for rssowl is located in this bugreport. Save it into a local overlay and you can emerge it.

Did you try the xulrunner USE flag? It shouldn't pull in Firefox or Seamonkey.
