|
|
Hi!
I tried to downgrade glibc-2.6.1 to the "latest" 2.5 version. Question is how...
Is there a "proofed" way to safely downgrade glibc? (Also perhaps dangerous or comlicated way...)
Of course I searched the forums and know of the build-in blocker for current glibcs regarding downgrades.
Would it be possible to copy the old glibc and put the dirs in the ldpath? Or is the dynamic linker/loader then broken aswell?
Reinstall is no option! _________________ System: AMD Phenom II X4 840, 16GB RAM, NVidia GeForce GT 520, ASUS M4A87TD/USB3, Raid, Seagate Constellation ES

No, the real question is why ?
There probably is some complicated way to downgrade glibc, but reinstalling would be easier and faster. |

I've done it in the past, trust me... Reinstall... It will save you days... End result will probably be a new install anyhow because your system ends up broken...
If you must know, you need to start out building a new downgraded toolchain... then you have to rebuild that toolchain with that toolchain... Then you pretty much do the same steps as changing your chost...

Well, I now tried it.
I quickpkg'ed glibc, unpacked it to /opt/glibc , added the paths (/opt/glibc/lib:/opt/glibc/lib64:/opt/glibc/usr/lib64:/opt/glibc/lib32:/opt/glibc/usr/lib32) to $LDPATH and ran env-update, sourced /etc/profile.
After that I masked newer glibc and downgraded from 2.6.1 to 2.5-r4. Than I rebuilt system twice and world once.
Worked like a charme.
I tried to check for some problems... unfortunatelly I'll need to downgrade to 2.4-r4... _________________ System: AMD Phenom II X4 840, 16GB RAM, NVidia GeForce GT 520, ASUS M4A87TD/USB3, Raid, Seagate Constellation ES

You're the third person I've seen ask about downgrading after I needed to do it. Perhaps a guide needs to be made. _________________ Steve - Semper Fi

The downgrade to 2.4-r4 worked as well. _________________ System: AMD Phenom II X4 840, 16GB RAM, NVidia GeForce GT 520, ASUS M4A87TD/USB3, Raid, Seagate Constellation ES
