I've installed gentoo multiple times with ethernet cards without problems, but I can't seem to get a token ring setup to work. The dhcpcd program just complains that tr0 (which loads fine using the olympic token ring module) isn't ethernet. I noticed Redhat has a different version of dhcpcd (1.2.18 as opposed to Gentoo's newer 1.2.20) and Redhat's doesn't complain. I can't sem to isolate the problem (beyond this?) and am at a loss as to what else I can do to get networking working.
Thanks.[/b] |

Apparently dhcpcd doesn't work at all with ethernet, but the program pump does.
Simply run "pump -i tr0" after loading the token ring module instead of dhcpcd. Then make obvious changes to the later install stuff (such as changing eth0 to tr0 everywhere.)
Unfortunately, pump isn't included with the default Gentoo install image, so I just tossed it on a floppy and copied it over.
