I have a stupid question for you all. I am setting up (yet another) Gentoo box in the house here. I have one computer running w/ 512 MB ram. When I upgrade the computers ram, do I need to recompile anything? I know that sometimes when I changed hardware configurations in Gentoo, the kernel copped an attitude with me. I was just curious if I would need to recompile anything, or if I should expect any errors.
Any thoughts on this?

should not be a problem - but if you go over 1gb ram
make sure you have the high memory kernel option
set (if you are using x86 machine) _________________ .... there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth

If I enable this option when I build the OS, will this have adverse effects if there is less than 1GB of memory in the machine at any point?
Thanks again,

some say memory access is a tiny bit slower with himem
enabled ... I don't think there is any noticeable difference _________________ .... there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth
