|
good evening guys
i got a really strange samba problem on my fresh installed gentoo box.
the problem
i'm trying to reinject a backup from a ~40gb big folder. in this folder are 4-5mb files. the backup is on my windows xp machine.
now i'm trying to copy the folder to my samba share and after a random timeframe windows tells me an error that the connection was resetted and copying failed.
the logs
Code: |
/var/log/samba/log.smbd
[2007/11/26 18:25:39, 0] printing/pcap.c:pcap_cache_reload(159)
Unable to open printcap file /etc/printcap for read!

Code: |
/var/log/samba/log.client

read_data: read failure for 4 bytes to client 192.168.1.2. Error = Connection reset by peer
[2007/11/26 18:25:39, 0] lib/util_sock.c:write_data(562)
write_data: write failure in writing to client 192.168.1.2. Error Broken pipe
[2007/11/26 18:25:39, 0] lib/util_sock.c:send_smb(769)
Error writing 75 bytes to client. -1. (Broken pipe)
[2007/11/26 18:25:39, 1] smbd/service.c:make_connection_snum(1033)
monster (192.168.1.2) connect to service data initially as user mc (uid=1000, gid=440) (pid 7505) |
the solution (?)
i already searched a bit and read different threads, where - 2006 - somebody talks about a shorewall problem: watched shorewall logs, nothing relating to smbd problems.
in a newer post - summer 2007 - a guy talks about setting the mounted share to chmod 777: already tryed, not solving the problem.
now what should i do next? any experts? any user with same experience who got it solved?
thanks in advance,

any errors in the kernel logs?
run dmesg and see if it spews out any disk read/write errors.
I would also check your network cables (anything layer 1). _________________ Nobody makes me bleed my own blood... NOBODY! |

try to stop samba, remove all files in /var/cache/samba and subdirs (the subdirs must be cleaned but not deleted), and restart it. _________________ scita et risus abundant in ore stultorum sed etiam semper severi insani sunt
