I have acer laptop, amd64 turion x2, ATI chipset, broadcom wireless (atheros with madwifi), ATI video card, in other words as crappy linux laptop as you can get.

Anyway, every 10-20 seconds it freezes for 5-6 seconds. While booting, or idling in X, all the time. When it locks up, it wakes up if I tap on the touchpad.

Now, I tried to fiddle with noapic and nolapic boot options, but to no avail.

Any ideas?

You can try the
Code:
CPUFREQ=off nohz processor.max_cstate=1 noapic

boot parameter. If all else fails can try installing 64-bit Gentoo.

Try passing nolapic_timer to the kernel.

Also see if your BIOS has an option to disable C1E.
