I'm pretty sure I uploaded the new ebuild but... looks like something failed.
I'll fix this later. |

modularize as much as possible and you should be able to get an image of 700 kbs.
Tiny patches are also helpfull and would be nice to have in zen btw.

| in all seriousness, when I shrink the kernel down from 2.8 to 2.4MB what am I really saving on a laptop with 1GB of RAM? I know it can't only be .5 MB of space. |

in such a machine kernel size doesnt matters much, i think. There was a discussion on the kernel lists about this subject sometime ago and they more or less concluded that size is important but not critical. Thats why -Os is not in the "embedded submenu" anymore iirc.
But on some machines with very limited resources, the size itself is really a problem, tiny patches and such are actually intended for those machines, not for those who have a desktop machine. But it gives you f.ex. the possibility to strip out some things you maybe dont use at all ... or just to play with it

thanks to Muty-bg (I think he has the same name on here as the Ubuntu forums) the 32 bit debs have a maintainer now...

I'm using laptom MSI PR 200 (model MS1221). I've fixed my dsdt and compiled it into kernel. And just after zen-sources update (I'm using git) I lost my battery:
| Code: | # acpitool
Battery status : <not available>
AC adapter : on-line
Thermal zone 1 : ok, 52 C
|
Here is part of my dmesg:
| Code: | ACPI: Table DSDT replaced by host OS
ACPI: DSDT 00000000, 5AC8 (r1 A1221 A1221000 0 INTL 20060912)

ACPI: bus type pci registered

ACPI: Interpreter enabled
ACPI: (supports S0 S1 S3 S4 S5)

ACPI Error (evregion-0316): No handler for Region [EC__] (ffff81007f004680) [EmbeddedControl] [20070126]
ACPI Error (exfldio-0289): Region EmbeddedControl(3) has no handler [20070126]

ACPI: EC: GPE = 0x17, I/O: command/status = 0x66, data = 0x62
ACPI: EC: driver started in poll mode
|
Also, could it be caused by fix in http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8598? I guess I lost battery info after this fix was applied. |

I can't reproduce this error nor find it... Are you using 32bits o 64bits?
Edited: I just realize that you're using 32 bits.
vacula
Could you test reverting that patch and see if it works? |

tranquicool, CONFIG_SPARSEMEM_VMEMMAP_ENABLE is only available for 64bits. How did you enable it?

Hi,

Can you, please, give-me your dsdt ?
I've got the same laptop as you (msi pr200-007 ?)
Thx,

Already have this
| Code: |
# grep ACPI_PROC .config
CONFIG_ACPI_PROCFS=y
CONFIG_ACPI_PROCFS_POWER=y
CONFIG_ACPI_PROC_EVENT=y
CONFIG_ACPI_PROCESSOR=y |
Still no luck. Looks like kernel don't support my MS-1221 or dsdt is "buggy" - I mean it is compiled without errors but works wrong or so...
@Waninkoko:
I've tried vanilla 2.6.24-rc4 - same ugly empty battery value. Probably, I should report to bugzilla.kernel.org? Any thoughts?

Hi,
I can confirm that the battery report is totaly wrong in OpenSUSE 10.3 with Msi PR-200 and also i had a lot of problem about this when i tried the first time (on this laptop) gentoo ...
Btw, your sound is working well or do you get this bug --> https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/view.php?id=3429
Sorry, i know i'm totally off-topic (but maybe, open a new one ?)

i'm having some problem while running python prog with zen-sources-2.6.24-rc3-zen4.
this is my .config http://rafb.net/p/qclGWc51.html
whenever i run some python apps (such as emerge/fusion-icon), there's >>> on the command line (just like u run python in interactive mode)
| Code: | $ fusion-icon
>>>(C-d)
$ sudo emerge world -up
>>>(C-d)
$ python
>>> |
something similar to that.
i don't know what i did wrong, and i've seek through this whole thread found no-one has similar problem as this, so decided to post. |

Same thing happened to me with (compressed) Reiser4.
Something in the driver changed the last time it was updated in zen-sources that causes this (I think...) |

You're not the only one, i get this as well, and now i know it's not about reiser4 cryptocompress but about the kernel (or the driver)

euch!
Boot params didn't helped much - after several minutes battery continue goes crazy. You fix just allowed ACPI to get some Embedded Controller region table information before being parsed from the DSDT. And thats fine - I have acpi/battery, but some time after that as I understand, because of buggy ACPI or whatever system can't get true values for battery. Also I'm missing acpi/fan - that's also pointer to buggy ACPI.
Sorry for that - and mostly, that's not an zen-sources issue. My happiness was too early, but I'll keep rolling!
