Hello all,

I get a "Digest verification failed" message (File size does not match) on libperl-5.8.8-r1.tbz2 when trying to emerge emul-linux-x86-baselibs-10.2. I've resynced twice and still have the same issue.

Anyone else's having the same problem?

Try removing libperl-5.8.8-r1.tbz2 from distfiles, if it still fails after downloading new sources do the following;
Code:
cd /usr/portage/sys-devel/libperl/
ebuild libperl-5.8.8-r1.ebuild manifest

Believe me, I deleted the file many times. And I didn't want to bypass the MD5 verification by using manifest as I wasn't sure that the package wasn't suddenly corrupted.

Okay, for what is worth here are the checksums from my manifest for that package, and I just did an `emerge -f libperl` to ensure they are valid;
Code:
DIST perl-5.8.8.tar.bz2 10123359
RMD160 e78f26d9b96e6db35f946ad4ff55e3a69385c71b
SHA1 4aab490040727ca4419098720eca2ba4367df539
SHA256 818a140d9c04ea8dab3a05104b34ced7f7d9d0a91bfed91baf89a84d0dfb1bc9
If the problem persists after an emerge --sync then you should probably file a bug (try removing the libperl directory from the portage tree before the sync).

This little problem has been discussed previously on this board. There was a bug in the Manifest file. It's been fixed and an emerge --sync will sort it out. ;)

Well...

I synced again twice today, it didn't work. I've deleted the relevant files in /usr/portage/distfiles, it didn't work either. I've deleted the /var/tmp/portage/app-emulation directory, it didn't work. I've run ebuild/manifest on libperl, it didn't change a thing. I've deleted the relevant ebuild directories in /usr/portage and synced again and it didn't work...

For what it's worth, here's the message that I get on failure:
Code:

!!! Digest verification failed:
!!! /usr/portage/distfiles/libperl-5.8.8-r1.tbz2
!!! Reason: Filesize does not match recorded size
!!! Got: 1837619
!!! Expected: 1534618

Here's how I solved it (in case someone else falls into the problem):
Code:

cd /usr/portage/app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-baselibs
ebuild emul-linux-x86-baselibs-10.2.ebuild manifest

That's the message we were all getting. This is from the Changelog of the fixed ebuild:

Quote:
11 Nov 2007; Mike Doty <kingtaco@gentoo.org>
files/digest-emul-linux-x86-baselibs-10.1,
files/digest-emul-linux-x86-baselibs-10.2, Manifest:
Manifest regeneration again, missed libperl on the last round. bug 198751
