Welcome to Gentoo!

I believe you are confused about the purpose of layman. It is for using software that is not in the tree.

In this case, you appear to be attempting to install an older version of kde. kde-4.9.3 is the current stable version and you are attempting to install kde-4.8.5. Unless you have a particular need for that specific version, you should try to install kde via the instructions on the wiki.

Layman is a powerful tool, but overlay software should not be used unless you have a specific reason for doing so. E-builds has a tendency to be in an overlay for a good reason, ie testing, instability, bugs, or just plain old. In this case, you are not even using it. 4.8.5 is still in the tree.

Apologies if I take a while to respond. I'm currently working on the dematerialization circuit for my blue box.
