|
|
I want to join the following computers on a network and allow them to distcc amongst themselves.
I also want to use the slower notebooks mainly as control panels (terminals) in different rooms to allow access to my mp3 collection and playlists.
An AMD 3400+ Single Core Desktop
An AMD 3400+ Dual Core Desktop
A Pentium 4 Desktop
An AMD 3200+ Mobile Notebook
An i386 Notebook
An i286 Notebook
Questions:
1. If all are using the same gcc -v, will distcc be possible across all machines?
2. Can I compile software for the two slow notebooks on the faster desktops?
3. Can I set up one of the Desktops as a server for X for the slower Notebooks?
I am sure I will have more questions as I am only now in the process of installing. I have the 3400+ single core up and running and am attempting to get the 3200+ notebook up by tomorrow if I can solve its wireless connection problems (see Kernel and Software thread if interested in helping with that)
Thanks, |

The only potential issue is that the machines are of different architectures.
The 286 is most troubling as there's no 286 Linux distribution that Gentoo supports.
The 386 is also troubling as the newest glibc does not work with them.
You may need to work with cross compiling if you need to mix x86 and amd64 on the machines, otherwise I've been distcc'ing between my p4 and k7 boxes without a hitch, as they're all i686. The machines that aren't i686 (ia64, amd64, and i486 test builds) are slightly problematic with distcc. The ia64 doesn't crosscompile (yet) for my other machines, and my amd64 box rarely compiles for the rest of my machines as it's usually turned off. _________________ Intel Core i7 2700K/Radeon R7 250/24GB DDR3/256GB SSD
