|
|
Hi, I recently installed gnome2, and I have several problems:
1) Under gtk2/gnome2 programs, I can't select all the fonts I have installed/configured. I installed lots of TrueType fonts from my windows partition, I could see them un gnome 1.4. update: It seems this problem is related with pango. It seems I can only see fonts listed in /etc/pango/pangox.aliases. Is there any automated way of populating that file?
2) The control panel is missing. I emerged it for gnome2, but there are very few options.
3) Old gtk programs (eg. evolution), can't launch attachments, or open links in mozilla.
4) more to come, when I fix that 3 ;->
Greetings... |

I'm having the same problem.. I don't know if it's pango related though
Anyone who found a solution for this? |

I'm sure you could get an answer right quick if you pop in #gentoo on irc.openprojects.net.
Be a good idea if you posted the answer though _________________ This message self destructed a long time ago. |

fonts issue:
try running gnome-font-install
control-center:
thats design, less "bloat" and confusion for users, a simpler smoother desktop that integrates harder.
launching... not sure, sorry. _________________ For immediate answers, @gentoo.org :

I've been using gdkxft for a while, before gtk offered anti-aliasing support. This might be your prob:
In your /etc/X11/XftConfig file, you have to tell X what fonts to offer anti-aliased. When something uses anti-aliasing (Gnome2), it only knows these fonts. I'd make sure what you have in there is what you need. It came set up properly when I emerged everything, so I'm not sure if that's it, but it sounds like it.
Hope it helps.
Oh, and if you're looking for very pretty fonts, try adding "match edit rgba = rgb;". Use Xmag and look at the difference. Especially if you've got an LCD. |

Hi, I did an strace of gnome-font-install and now I know why it didn't detect all my fonts. It has hardcoded paths for where to look for fonts, and i had installed them in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/local
thanks for all your help
About control-center, yeah, it's prettier, but I still prefer old style, with many options |

launching your apps, here is the solution:
For the gnome 1.4 libs, start gnomecc, then selcet Document handlers, URL Handlers and set for the default protocol:
Code: |
gnome-moz-remote --newwin "%s"
|
or whatever app you want to start.
For the gnome 2.0 libs: start gnome-control-center, >Advanced, > File types and programs and select your preferred app for each mime type. _________________ Do you want your posessions identified? [ynq] (n) |

I edited /etc/fonts/fonts.conf and added my truetype directories. Worked fine from there. There's a post about that somewhere here.
