Hi there,

I'm glad to announce small-gentoo for amd64 r8 codename "full blown edition"

which contains the latest & greatest of the community

this release is dedicated to Vipernicus / Cory - and I think he would have liked it

there's also Waninkoko's 2.6.23-kamikaze5 "Vipernicus" patch onboard so that you won't need to search for a kernel-patchset during installation)

new stuff:
- support for via pata / sata chipsets on bootup via the "gentoo-viapata" command (via: pci=noacpi noapic pci=nomsi)
- X: for a properly working X you need to become "superroot" (?) via: su - , then you'll be able to set gnome / fluxbox in /root/.xinitrc
=> (full-blown graphical environment) with either fluxbox or gnome, for nvidia-users: compiz-fusion
- source-compiled openoffice with nice gtk file open/browse-dialog -> for more effective work with it
- printer support: you need to execute unionfs.sh on /mnt/cdrom/union/ and then start /etc/init.d/cupsd to be able to print
- hardened livecd with pie+ssp compiler (gcc-4.2.2 & glibc-2.6.1), guarddog-support, iptables support
- reiser4 & ext4dev support (reiser4progs 1.0.6)
- cryptsetup-1.0.5, truecrypt-support
- broken testdisk  (won't compile with gcc-4.2.2 so I keep the old compiled - hopefully it works)
- atm & ppp-support, kdsl, ...
- some other goodies taken from System Rescue CD's package list - kudos to the creator :)
- 2.6.23-kamikaze4 with some modifications (e.g. p5wdh [asus p5w dh deluxe] patch to let it boot up without having to wait 30-40 seconds on boot  ) kudos to Waninkoko

Oh there will be, I think. Give it some time.
I myself haven't come around to trying it out yet.

It`s just working with gnome and fluxbox and not tweaked for compiz & etc.
I`m posting it mainly for backup but if someone is interested can use it of course

kernelOfTruth: is it possible to make *x86 version too.

I like your *amd64 versions and I use them a lot, but many times I end up without livecd for some x86 system that has reiser4. Then I need to update the toolchain for 1 hole day....

Anyway, thanks a LOOOT for your LiveCDs.

I even used the mplayer of the livecd a few times. :D

there's already a x86-branch but not updated any more that often / if any - since I'm working permanently now under amd64:

I'd try it immediately... problem is, once you've got your Gentoo installation up and running there's just about nothing which could destroy it. And what you have here is strikingly similar to my desktop system. ;) Granted, I'll use your install-CD for my next 32 to 64 bit transition (replacing my notebook in 2008). :)

Where were you on Oct 28th? :P

That's when I got my new X2 to install shit on and ... well, I did. I'm not really up to breaking things just now (my wife would kill me since it's officialy her box). I'll try it eventually. Maybe I'll break something intentionally and pretend I don't know how to fix it.

Hi, I tried your LiveCD, and compared to the last release for amd64, and the last up-to-date sabayon live-cd, yours is the one which works the better for me untill now with my hardware - with acpi=off as a boot option.

I have an Intel Motherboard, a DG33TL, kinda good on paper, but really infamous with my prefered OS untill now.

So, unfortunately for me, I still have some issue with the gigabit ethernet controller, with e1000 loaded at the boot, my device doesn't appear as eth0 with a ifcongig -a.
Then, I can't connect to the internet to continue any installation.

Any idea?

alexou, you might want to try out the

Quote:
<*> Intel(R) PRO/1000 Gigabit Ethernet support

is
Quote:
00:19.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82566DC Gigabit Network Connection (rev 02)
your chip ?

Code:
lspci
<-- see if that matches the above

Just booted it up and:

1) X starts to TWM (startx)
2) Touchpad in my laptop does not work
3) Use grub instead of isolinux
4) X does not start automatically

ad1: yeah I wrote that you need to
Code:
su -
to be able to start into fluxbox or gnome
ad 2: sorry
ad 3: nope - had to much problems with it in the past (maybe I'll change that)
ad 4: it's a gentoo livecd & should be fast - not knoppix

I nevertheless have very little time so development will stall again ...

I was looking for an amd64 livecd I could use to benchmark kernel compilation on machines that don't have Linux installed, and this looked perfect, but gcc can't seem to find any header files. Am I missing something?

sorry, then I may have had to leave something out - shortly I finished the final version of this release the CD was completely full so it might be gcc's files

one suggestion: get yourself a big enough usb-stick & copy a stage3 tarball, portage tarball on it, dunno if that's enough - the problem's still that you'll need a partition :(

you tried sky2 for 8056 ?

for that network-card try the

gentoo-nomsiirqpoll (?) boot-option since that's the one I use for my 8053 card

what does
Code:
ifconfig -a
say?

sometimes you need to enable dhcpcd manually via

e.g.
Code:
dhcpcd -t 10 eth2
