| This ebuild does not work for me. I am not running compiz but rather just kwin with composite extensions enabled. I tried disabling composite and it still does it. X is using a ton of CPU, oftentimes at 65% or more. This is on a T9500 Penryn. |

Thanks alot that was it thank god i stumbled other this thread. The terminal resizing problem has been bugging me for months. I always had a 3-5 second delay before the gnome terminal window would resize. _________________ Gentoo Blog |

are there real fixes out there instead of doing a workaround (nvidia-settings -a InitialPixmapPlacement=2) ?
i have the same problem, tab switching is very slow when composite is enabled... |

The recent fglrx drivers fixed a bug relating to this, the release notes are here http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/catalyst_86_linux.html
and they state
Attempting to resize a 2D application window no longer results in poor performance being noticed when composing is enabled. Further details can be found in topic number 737-35201 |

I just tried xorg-server-1.4.2 and nvidia-drivers-177.80 and the problem is still there. So I had to modify xorg-server again.
This problem is now one year old. Is it just unfixable?!
Does anyone know something new? |

Sorry for double posting but this could be interesting:
I've just booted with an Ubuntu Live-CD, installed the nvidia driver and activated compiz. And there everything works fine.
Versions:
nvidia driver: 169.12
xorg-server: 1.4.1
xorg-server-1.4.1 includes the patch, that is responsible for our problems but ubuntu does not show this problem. So could it be a configuration problem after all?
