The full error is as follows:

Code:
kmplayer: ERROR: : couldn't create slave : Unable to create io-slave:
klauncher said: Unknown protoco ''.

I have seen this on a lot of other threads and on google. I think that it's KDE specific and not just Gentoo specific or even kmplayer specific since I have seen a lot of different KDE apps with the same error. I see other distros have had the same errors.

The important part seems to be:
Code:
couldn't create slave : Unable to create io-slave:
klauncher said: Unknown protocol

Thank you.

Hum, judging by what's the result of googling, it's mainly a matter of re-emerging kdebase
(I'd bet on kdebase-kioslaves for splitted ebuilds, but could not be enough),
at least so it seems looking here,
it may be that a file was removed and it should instead be there.

Anyway, a fast check to be sure it isn't an error in the configuration files may be creating a new user
and try to start kde with that user. If the issue is still present for the new user then it's really likely
it's located in /usr/.... so a re-emersion may fix, while if new user has not the same issue, then
you'll likely find your error in ~/.kde/.... (your user homedir).

That's not a bug reported from everyone and it's not happening right after install process, so we may
safely suppose that something happened to cause this bug (ie: a file was accidentally deleted or rewritten
by badly written code emerged without collision-protect ).

That has to be one of the best answers that I have ever got. Thanks, I'll investigate tonight.

EDIT: OK, I just re-emerged kdebase-kioslaves and now the problem does not happen anymore. Thank you Matteo Azzali.
