|

Hello,
I've got some weird behavior of kaffeine:
starting "digital tv" from the kaffeine menue, results in a black screen - it seems, that kaffeine cannot scan after a channel.
After killing the "stalled" programme and restarting it, I choose anything except "digital tv" from the kaffeine menue (f.e. "Play Playlist") and than choose "digital tv", watching tv works ...
Here the output when starting kaffeine from the console (with ends with a freeze):

It worked before, but I am too stupid to know/remember what package update causes the problem. _________________ Greetings from Vienna

I have the same problem and fighting it now.
In periods it works nice and suddenly it stop working and hangs all the time.
So you say that there is a package somewhere that need to be re-emerged but you cannot remember which?

Erik |

After several attempts with a hanging kaffeine it start working after I re-emerge xine-lib.
The complete procedure I followed was:
* Look into gentoo-portage.com to examine the dependencies for Kaffeine.
* emerge kaffeine itself, no improvements.
* emerge xine-lib while waiting for a hanging kaffeine.
* Killed kaffeine and started it again and it worked.
One thing, one of the tries I made today where during a timed recording. The recording started and the number of available channel decreased as it should. When I tried to watch the same channel as I recorded from the GUI hang.
I will give this a chance and hopefully it is not a coincident that it works. Can some one else try the same to verify?
Regards,
Erik |

Dear Erik,
thank you very much - I will re-emere xine-lib and post the results (I hope there will be better results than Austrian songs at the Eurovision Songcontest - Austria zero points)...
Here "my" emerge-settings of xine-lib:
| Quote: | | [ebuild R ] media-libs/xine-lib-1.1.8 USE="X alsa arts directfb dvd esd gnome gtk ipv6 mad nls opengl oss sdl truetype v4l vorbis win32codecs xinerama xv -a52 -aac -aalib (-altivec) -debug -dts -dxr3 -fbcon -flac -imagemagick -jack -libcaca -mmap -mng -modplug -musepack -pulseaudio -real -samba -speex -theora -vcd -vidix -wavpack -xcb -xvmc" 0 kB |
-- Update --
reemerging xine-lib did not change the behaviour of kaffeine. Now I can hear some "noise" before dvb-t-watching hangs. Killing and restarting kaffeine (one ore more times), watching dvb-t works ...
... strange ... (Austria still zero points) _________________ Greetings from Vienna |

Well, it worked for me. Or it looked like it.
What is the output from dmesg?
My dmesg reports:
| Code: |
tda1004x: setting up plls for 48MHz sampling clock
tda1004x: found firmware revision 20 -- ok
|
Does the timed recording work?
Have you tried revdep-rebuild?
It is sometimes useful. I run it frequently (but not for a while, better do).
Maybe still a chance for point to Austria?
Regards,
Erik |

Yupp - revdep-rebuild did not find any broken library/link.
>Does the timed recording work?
Yes
here the dmesg output:
| Quote: | usb 1-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2

dvb-usb: downloading firmware from file 'dvb-usb-dib0700-1.10.fw'
dib0700: firmware started successfully.
dvb-usb: found a 'Hauppauge Nova-T Stick' in warm state.
dvb-usb: will pass the complete MPEG2 transport stream to the software demuxer.
DVB: registering new adapter (Hauppauge Nova-T Stick)
DVB: registering frontend 0 (DiBcom 7000MA/MB/PA/PB/MC)...
MT2060: successfully identified (IF1 = 1220)
input: IR-receiver inside an USB DVB receiver as /class/input/input7
dvb-usb: schedule remote query interval to 150 msecs.
dvb-usb: Hauppauge Nova-T Stick successfully initialized and connected.
usbcore: registered new interface driver dvb_usb_dib0700 |
... seems to be ok ...
... interessting - while starting xine or mplayer watching dvb both buffer the stream ... kaffeine does not?
Xine and mplayer handle dvb:// without any problems.
May be, the signal is so weak, that kaffeine sometimes crashes (is it using the xine engine?).
Thank you very much! _________________ Greetings from Vienna |

I used another DVB-decoder before this one and when the signal was weak the xine engine crashed. I have asociated it with decoding-problems due to missing frames in the stream. When I play a recorded stream that contains drops Kaffeine often crach.

| And yes, normally kaffeine is using the xine engine. But yoou can chose to use the kaffeine-built in instead. |

Dear Erik,
I 've reemerged xine-lib, qt-3.3*, kdelibs and unmerged/emerged kaffeine - same result (Austria: zero points).
But if the "amplified signal function" is enabled, kaffeine does not crash so often:
| Quote: | | modprobe dvb-usb-dib0700 force_lna_activation=1 |
May be the signal is that bad?
And yes - when the signal goes down during recording, kaffeine crashes during playing that (recorded) mpeg-file.
I will try dvb-t somewhere in Vienna, where I can see the broadcasting antenna (to get good signal).
Thank you!
--- Update ---
the signals ARE bad - the best signal gets about 30 percent (!!!)
(Austria: minus ten points) _________________ Greetings from Vienna |

seems to be a "simple" problem with the xine engine setting:
in Settings -> xine Engine parameters -> video
the option "opengl" was chosen...
... changing it to "auto" (it seems, that xine takes xv)
and the freeze is gone ...
... I am still testing out ... and it looks good ...
--- Update ---
after using the "auto" parameter in the xine Engine - video settings (see above) kaffeine starts viewing dvb-t channels without chrashing.
But during recording - when the dvb-t signal gets weak or lost, the cpu charge goes up to 100% and kaffeine stalls (only a kill helps).
(Sorry for that bad english...) _________________ Greetings from Vienna |
