|

Hi everyone,
I have gentoo installed on 4 different systems. I successfully switched 3 systems from grub to grub2 following the "GRUB2 migration" guide (from eselect news).
On my last System I get the Error:
Quote: | Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0) |
I can't figure out what is causing this problem since the same kernel can be started with grub legacy. (I select grub2 by chainloading it as recommended in [1])
I tried out a few of my older kernels and found out, that my kernel-3.10.7 is bootable with grub2, but not kernel-3.10.7-gentoo-r1. So I diffed the ".config" files but weren't able to find the entry which caused the problem. I put a diff of the configfiles to [2].
Does anyone have a clue what I can do to get grub2 boot my latest kernel?

Thanks a lot!

Hi
But what about the rest?
Does the kernel recognize the drives and its partitions before it outputs the error message that you posted? Do you get the listing of drives & partitions?
What kind of filesystem are your using on your root partition?
Asking because with 3.14.2 I got the same message and had to add "rootfstype=nilfs2" (of course because I'm using "nilfs2") to the kernel options - this never ever happened before but without this option the system just showed the error message that you posted.
