In the last version of kernel config menu:
Code: | <*> VESA VGA graphics support
VESA driver type (vesafb-tng) --->
(1024x768@75) VESA default mode
|
Now I've got:
Code: | [*] VESA VGA graphics support |
Is it possible to turn back old option? |
fbsplash is not in lastest genpatches and vesafb-tng has been replaced by uvesafb. |
Fbsplash has been replaced by fbcondecor and is included in kamikaze2. |

What is the status of reiser4 in this kernel.
If i install it from custom-kernels repository, is it (reiser4) stable(functional) or are there any other patches needed? Does it break, or any bugs? _________________ Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.

Thanks
I did read the thread, but i didn't know if any patches were added to custom-kernels and how much was fixed in custom-kernels from the time kamikaze2 came out.
I'll wait for kamikaze3 then probably (i might test kamikaze2, too) _________________ Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.

custom-kernels is updated to kamikaze2, the latest available. kamikaze3, according to what waninkoko says, will be out as soon as namesys releases the official new patch for 2.6.23. therefore, very soon btw, kamikaze2 is already a great kernel, I had a big big performance (also in battery life, +15%) improvement from 2.6.22 |

looks like gentoo devs & upstream are already aware of these problems.

Is this only me, or did the kernel become more sluggish on .23?
Using the same config, on .22 i could scan forward and backward in amarok with no stuttering. meanwhile on .23 there is always a skip of one second or so.
Could this be CFS related? Or where should i start looking?
kernel-config, if needed.
apart form that, kamikaze is a great patchset. And I think I scared some people from the ck-ML by mentioning that ck-patchset is continue to live for a little longer...
cheers

vacula: No I'm using a SVN checkout:
svn co http://svn.madwifi.org/madwifi/trunk
then a:
KERNELPATH=/usr/src/linux-2.6.23-kamikaze2 make
KERNELPATH=/usr/src/linux-2.6.23-kamikaze2 make install
Hope this helps (hopefully it won't be to long till ath5k is in a usable state)

The only way i was ever able to get any version of madwifi from svn to work was to actually cd into the mad-wifi version direcory as root while booted to the kernel I wanted to use, and then run make and make install. Even so, with many many versions over the last 2 years it worked less than half the time with many different kernels, and wasn't reliable even when it did compile. I must have tried 20 different svn versions during this time, not to mention those in portage, which almost never worked.
I finally got fed up and went with ndiswrapper, and the windows driver that came on the cd that came with my D-link atheros based card. Never have any problems now, and the signal received from my router on the same hardware is ALWAYS at least 50-75% stonger than I ever got with mad-wifi. Ndiswrapper has been completely reliable, whereas mad-wifi has always been a roll of the dice, and the sgnal was always borderline when it did work. _________________ Main box- AsRock x370 Gaming K4

I've never had any issues with it (except when it deliberately stopped automatically making the ath0 interface)
I have a little script called svn-update which updates portage, layman and all my other overlays whilst pulling the latest code for madwifi and uvc webcam driver building them and installing them all automatically before emerging any updates and prelinking
Comes in v handy
Just wondering if any of the reported problems are due to not having the wireless stack enabled in the kernel

Do you know what this fix comprehends? I am experiencing severe sluggishness since 2.6.23 on normal -gentoo kernels. My mouse and appications lag badly during any sort of disk access.
This is on nforce2 with cfq iosched now, but effect is the same using other schedulers.
Tnx!
EDIT: Ok, never mind... the problem was caused because I had also switched to the newer/experimental pata drivers. Reverting back to old IDE makes it go away. _________________ - Skion |
