if an ebuild has been posted on these forums, i've most likely tried booting it. including the x86 single x86/x86_64 kernel. it didn't boot
Right now, Kamikaze-sources as there is no kernel-source competition and he is the only competitor (klight doen't cound since it comes from the same maintainer, imo).
favorite of all time was love-sources as those sources actually made my system work way back in the day. viper-sources also have a place in my heart.
if only gentoo-sources had uvesafb. |

suspend2-sources only.
It has gentoo-sources patches + suspend2. I use suspend2 on PC's and laptop, because it decreases computer startup time and gives me environment in the same state as it was before hibernation. _________________ powered by power plant |

I am using both vanilla sources which I compile with genkernel --gconfig all command and occasionally the gentoo sources. |

I use vanilla-sources + hrt patch (no tickless for AMD64 in mainline yet) + hdaps patch. I'd love to use gentoo-sources, but it's just not as reliable when it comes to adding third-party patches. |

gentoo-sources, always have. I don't need to use anything special, suspend sources or anything since my laptop will power up and be logged into Gnome in one minute. That's fast enough for me |

- gentoo-sources with reiser4 patch
- vserver-sources, again with reiser4 patch
A while ago, I've also used ck-sources (of course with reiser4 ), but I could not observe any significant performance difference (at least on x86 - on a 400MHz Powerbook they may have been a little bit more responsive), and I became sick of having to download the whole kernel for every little update.
Why reiser4? Well, because it's simply great: I put my whole portage tree on /var/portage, and /var has it's own partition with reiser4. Result: emerge syncs (especially portage cache updating) is ~40% faster than on reiser3.6 ! Similarly, on my vserver-machine (it's only for playing around) I put the /vservers directory on a reiser4 partition. Not a single problem with both filesystems within one year of use. (Of course I would not recommend to use it for your home directory if you have a desktop and multimedia setup.) |

hardened-sources on both the laptop and desktop
However, I tend to run with the security features turned off on the desktop, since I still haven't been able to get them to play nice with virtualbox. |

Because reiser4 is said to be designed for fast throughput but not for great responsiveness in setups where low-latency and realtime processing is needed. At least that's what I can remember from doing some internet research when I tried to install a low-latency audio workstation quite a while ago.
Of course you may very well have your home directory installed with reiser4 even on a multimedia machine, but for example if you want to do audio recording I'd use an extra non-reiser4 (and even non-reiserfs) partition for that, lets say /home/cjubon/records. |

gentoo-sources
sometimes there are problems e.g. the update to 2.6.23, there was a problem with the sandbox and modules like nvidia and alsa, but I wont remove the old before switching to a new one.
In general they are up to date and stable. |

I use tuxonice (aka suspend2) kernel sources on all my boxes. Even my main SMP w/ 1GB SDRAM is using tuxonice sources. _________________ Roger

i use gentoo-sources for the most part.
depending upon the role of the machine; for example,
firewalls and some production boxes; i use hardened-sources
w/ the hardened profile.

Gentoo-sources all around, though considering hardened- or xen- as I rebuild and expand my network, and make use of my static DSL. |

Latest -rc release off kernel.org (-git if available) plus any required patches. Stable kernels are for the weak. |
