|

after 12 hours instalation of gentoo. everything was ok til I must config grub.
boot partition is on hdb1
swap partition is on hdb5
setup partition is on hdb6
grub only want to set the boot on (hd0,0) and not on (hd1,0). This problem was the same by the setup.
So I setup everything like the install.txt on the gentoo cd.
When I turn on pc now I see the menu of GRUB but if I select to start gentoo the computer restarts.
When I klick on "e" i see this.
root (hd0,0)
kernel /boot/bzImage root=/dev/hdb6
Can somebody help me.... _________________ If your life sucks... Change it because It's all about Fun.... |

What happens when you try to configure grub to use hd1,0? Error messages, etc.

While my problem is slightly different, it is related. I have a laptop with two hard drives, and in the bios, I can select the drive from which to boot. What I would like to do, but so far have been unable to do, is install grub on the MBR of (hd1) rather than installing it on (hd0). When I have done this, it displays GRUB in the upper left hand corner and then hangs. I believe the only thing I haven't done at this point is to change the drive mapping in the map file, but I don't think this will fix my issue, and I was unsure if it would affect my primary hard drive. Is there a resolution, other than installing a boot manager on the MBR of (hd0)?
Thanks for any help.
Best Regards,
Steve |

If hda is not a hard disk, then hdb is (hd0). _________________ | www.gentoo.org | www.tldp.org | www.google.com | |

I know now what the problem is.
Ok my HDB is (HD0) and starts good.
My problem is that I compiled my kernel wrong.
I didn't set that i have a k6-2 and now I compiled it default for a i686.
Now he want to start but reboot it because of that.
Tomorrow I try to compile my kernel again.
Without install gentoo again.
It will save me 12 hours.... _________________ If your life sucks... Change it because It's all about Fun.... |
