Edit: Ok, I just shot over to ximian.com and downloaded the gthumb patch and stuck it where it was supposed to be. Seemed to compile fine, so just a heads up about the missing patch.
Whew! Only 49 more packages left to install! |
Obviously others (like me) will have this problem. Until this issue is fixed, here is the url to the patch:

Save it as:

First of all, great work!
99% of everything works as expected. Most of the build errors (there are only a few) are easy fixes. See the bug report mentioned earlier. The main issues remaining are related to settings. For instance, if I'm to believe 'My Computer', my laptop now has 3 CDs instead of 1. Also, for me, only the Screensaver and Session preferences are available from the System...Personal Settings menu, although the commands all work from the CLI.
I would like to get rid of my extra CD links, if someone knows how to. And I would also like to know how to set my menu panel to use small icons, rather than the size they are by default.
I'm not a big fan of the Industrial theme, but I left as default for this screenshot: www.wrevolution.org/images/xd2ss.png
Thanks again! _________________ embrace the wrevolution

Everything went fairly smooth for me too, especially concidering its the first release. My 'personal settings' is bonked too, but everything is easily configured from the command line. To change the size of your icons edit your ~/.gtkrc file
Code: | gtk-icon-sizes = "panel-menu=24,24" |
Excellent work with the XD2 patches folks. |

No, it's not a disk usage thing. df shows I'm only using 54% of my root partition. None of the partitions it shows are full. |

No, really we should get a new thread going about running xd2gen2 - since the first many pages are about development and here's the port, everybody go "wohoo, and oink" That thread should then be stick, because currently "can I run Ximian Desktop2 on Gentoo is one of the hottest questions around" |

I installed this last night, but like some of the others in this thread, none of the gui prefs apps work. Also, urls like printers:/// don't work. |

1) stick it where the sun doesn't shine
2) consult your local head doctor instead
3) pay me...
Otherwise we should be fine. |

The first error has to do with a typo in the ebuild It should say "inherit" not "inheit" Best way to deal with this unless you *really* want gnome games is to Code: | emerge --inject gnome-extra/gnome-games-2.2.0-r30 |

Or you could just go into the ebuild and fix it like I did. The ebuild says
inheit gnome2i
Change it to
inherit gnome2
Easy. But I never could figure out the at-spi problem, so I didn't install it. |

I et this problem when compiling:
Code: |
checking for CUPS libraries version >= 1.1.0... Found version 1.1.19
checking for libgnomecups-1.0 >= 0.1.0... Package libgnomecups-1.0 was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `libgnomecups-1.0.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'libgnomecups-1.0' found
configure: error: Library requirements (libgnomecups-1.0 >= 0.1.0) not met; consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them.
!!! ERROR: gnome-base/libgnomeprint-2.3.0_pre1-r30 failed.

IIRC, just emerge libgnomecups first. I think it was a problem with the build order. After that you can emerge gnome as usual. _________________ embrace the wrevolution

well guys i never thought i will see this. i didn't try it yet. i am somehow afraid of the the stuff that won't work after the huge build. well anyway everything looks great. I tryed once to use a little hack to use ximian on gnome. allmost succeded. didn't had time to finish.
i extracted most of the needed libraries from suse-8.2 and placed them in a special /opt/suse_libraries/lib and exported the lib path especially for xd. just when i was closed to finish had a problem with one of the servers. so anyway i think this is a proper way.
i would have thought that ximian could support their product under gentoo. i would have been cool. imho they could sell their product for non rh suse distributions. whatever.
anyway goodluck guys.
hope that the gentoo developers would start to help you |
