It's kind of a fun idea...
Basically, if you edit a post, you put [edit] around your edit.
If you want to be more specific, you can do something like [edit type="addition"] or [edit type="deletion"] or [edit type="fix"] or something similar, and end the edit with [/edit].
I'm not saying make it a required standard, I'm just saying it's kind of fun. |

you suggest doing this in addition to the somewhat standard edit line that people put on the bottom that says what they have changed?
i.e. below
[edit]: changed several typos |

Sounds like a job for the phpbb maintainers.
Enforcing it would not be reasonably possible.
EDIT: Fixed typo. _________________ lolgov. 'cause where we're going, you don't have civil liberties.

I don't like this idea very much. Sometimes I want to go back and change a few things without it being obvious I'm editing. I use [edit] when I make a change that is worth reading my post again to see.

It would be rather difficult to implement directly into phpBB without putting words in the users' mouths. I meant it to be like an append with a classification that the user could describe, but that they wouldn't have to have it if they didn't want to.
However, instead of having to have it automatically put in, they could just add the [edit] tag directly, and have it in a box similar to the code and quote tags... and the type= part could be removed (i.e. do it the way quote does, as in, quote="whatever")
Hrm, actually, I think I will go suggest it.
[edit type="addition"]Hehe, my system in action. Anyway...
I wouldn't want it to be enforced, because like one person said earlier, maybe they don't want their edit to be obvious. I think it would be slightly easier to spot if this system was used, so that you didn't keep having to check the same post for modifications.

Oh yeah. I can't believe I never noticed that before. I guess I only ever edit messages a few seconds after I post them when I notice a typo.
