To monitor your connections at your box you can use "iptraf". The description says: "IPTraf is an ncurses-based IP LAN monitor". I don't know if it can log connections and i'm not sure if you are looking for this. You might want to have a look at your /usr/portage/net-analyzer/ where such network stuff ebuilds are stored. Another way to log connections is via iptables. If you want something completely different than ask another question more precisely.

Well how about monitoring network traffic in an app like gkrellm over a remote connection without having X installed on your remote pc.

well the gkrellm thing is what i have right now and what i don't like about it is that i can't see who is connected unless they are still connected so if one of my servers just had a hit and i wasn't right there to witness it then i dunno about it or i do but have no idea where it can from. I just want a way to keep track of who is accessing what on my computer.

Well I was asking myself since I have three pcs on a network and would like to set one up as a possible ftp/http server and was wondering about traffic graphs without opening up mozilla and possibly cpu usage, but I dont have X installed on the soon to be server.
