First off, this is on a PPC install (my first PPC install).

I'm having trouble with alsamixer. It will save some settings (unmute master/volume on master, PCM and beep), but not on the all-important unmute headphones! I'm getting audio, but through the tinny speaker in the tower (rather than the receiver the computer is hooked up to!).

I tried manually editing the file /etc/asound.state (changing the value from false to true for headphones), but that doesn't seem to change anything?

Also, while an mp3 is playing, I can use alsamixer to adjust the volume, but if I unmute the headphone jack - no dice.

Any ideas?

Fixed it - there was some lame "automute" option in alsamixer that was on (unmuted). I couldn't modify it in alsamixer, so I changed it in asound.state to false, restarted alsa, and was then able to unmute/mute the other options. Hurray!
