I have an existing DHCP server that provides DNS domain among other things. If I configure my Gentoo system as a DHCP client using dhcpcd, I get an IP and gateway, but no domain suffix. So after searching for a solution for that and not finding one that would work, I decided to try static. In that case, I get an error during boot that says 192.168.254.20 already assigned to eth0 (there's only one NIC in the box, eth0).
So I guess I'm looking for the best way to get all of the networking functions working. Ideally I prefer DHCP because I can then just set up a reservation to assure the same IP every time. Any idea why dhcpcd won't use the DNS suffix from the DHCP server? I tried the ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" option to get the latest masked version, but same result. I don't remember either of these configurations static or DHCP being a problem in the past so I'm kind of lost...
