What needs doing needs doing, and 48 hours ain't so bad (and if it takes longer, well, it takes longer). I'm really just posting to say that the advance warning is a good thing to have, and appreciated. You people lose my post count, though, well, then there'll be trouble. And not trouble with a capital 'T', but all caps, man, all caps.... _________________ Thomas S. Howard |

My goal was to have 1000 posts by September 10. You make this harder, evil moderators!
Fortunately, this counts as one.
/me waits for amne to kill his post count. _________________ http://omploader.org/ - free image/file uploading script and site

The night before the upgrade I'm posting a screenshot of my postcount to omploader. One more backup can't hurt.
Thanks for the advance notice. _________________ Plants are pithy, brooks tend to babble--I'm content to lie between them.

i am so dumb as not to understand the title of this thread.
is the forum closing for sometime?
upgrading to other forum software ? - most other forums i am member of are newer but not not so good as to upgrade our forum fo that software.
what is wrong with current forum except ofcourse the search facility for looking up subjects being poor
loosing count of number posts may not be much trouble but if loose the post itself we may loose much
i would keep the same forum if possible.

Best of luck in the conversion. The Gentoo Forums are a key reason that Gentoo is so successful!
I'm very interested in the details of your procedures, especially the conversion to UTF-8. Please document this for others to use when they go through similar headaches. Obviously, it will be tailored to your specific setup, but it will still be a useful reference. Thanks in advance! _________________ I like Linux. |

Can I request that the "Gentoo Forums :: View topic - ..." be appended after the title while you are doing it? A lot of my bookmarks visibly show only that. |

| JeanValjean wrote: | | Can I request that the "Gentoo Forums :: View topic - ..." be appended after the title while you are doing it? | You can request whatever you want to, though such changes are exceedingly unlikely during this transition. The database containing the forums is to be moved to a more recent version of the database server presently being used, the user interface should remain essentially unchanged through the transition.
