|
|
After the big libexpat.so0 mess I had creaed with my system i decided to make a clean install. (It was time anyway)
So instaling gentoo base system, emerging xorg, emerging gnome setting my profile to desktop2007 and a emerge -avDuN and at last a revdep-rebuild
Now everything is working from IR,bluetooth,3D, etc... everthings works just fine but....
There is something wrong with it. Its like every program i run get run with the utmost priority. Result, any other program is put in the background.
Its like there is a program using 80to 90% CPU al the time. (but there isn't)
Its quite laggy, it runs fine for 10 seconds... lag... 10 seconds lag....
Its like gentoo has lost the ability to multitask properly..
This is obvioulsy a problem, one wich i don't know how to solve since i don't know what causing it !
So if you have any sugestions please tell ! (searching a specific log, etc....)

Now i did use my old ccache folder from my old instalation again on this new one.
Can that cause troubles? (I am usng the exact same makefile )
Another odd thing :
My hard drivers used to be /dev/sda1 etc... For some reason they are called /dev/hda1 etc.. now
Greetings Anon5710

Anon5710,
Two things come to mind:- your kernel preemption settings:- | Code: | │ │ Preemption Model (Preemptible Kernel (Low-Latency Desktop)) ---> │ │
│ │ [*] Preempt The Big Kernel Lock | is good.
and your DMA settings. With SATA, if your drives appear as hda ... you have chosen | Code: | | [ ] Support for SATA (deprecated; conflicts with libata SATA driver) | and not the SATA driver for yor chipset under the new ATA kernel menu.
Reusing ccache is ok. You get cache misses if something key has changed, like the version of gcc.
What does | Code: | | I am usng the exact same makefile | refer to ?
/etc/make.conf or the lernel config file ?
The former is ok, the latter needs a make oldconfig, as you may not have the same kernel version now. _________________ Regards,

Unfortunately this is not true, i am verry certain that i did not selected that.
I selected the
| Code: |
│ │ <*> Serial ATA (prod) and Parallel ATA (experimental) drivers
|
And the appropriate chipset specific drivers
and yes i was refreing to make.conf
And indeed DMA is not enabled.
Ill try a make clean, and recompile the kernel while double checking everything |

Alright..
As suspected i did enable the correct sata drivers.
But only after i ommited the the entire
| Code: |
│ │ < > ATA/ATAPI/MFM/RLL support --->
|
section, the sata drivers started working..
Luckly i own a USB cd rom..
Is this normal behaviour ? |

Anon5710,
It varies from chip set to chipset and BIOS to BIOS.
If you have an IDE CDROM, thats probably not working now however that can be fixed.
We need to know your lspci output to continue. _________________ Regards,

Anon5710,
You did but it wasn't clear if the USB CDROM was shared, so it was a workaround for now, or if you still had a device that wasn't working.
I'm glad thats your problem solved - Enjoy your Gentoo _________________ Regards,
