samba and winpopups(messenger service...)

I was wondering if its possible to send a winpop directly to an IP instead of having to specify the netbios name(smbclient -M wants a name...but i only have the ip...and nblookup acts too weird here, long story). i tried -I (ip) but -M still wants a hostname...also tried -M theip :\
or, if you guys know another console program to send winpopups that supports direct ip sending, im open for suggestions (freshmeat didnt turn up much, most of them were for X)
