On my main rig at home I ended up downgrading and masked the new version.

I also am in parallel rebuilding the system in a chroot. I am using the script at http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-494331-highlight-.html

This script totally rebuilds your system grabbing the latest versions that you allow (through your keywords and masking) and skips over packages that fail. After going through all your packages it repeats this step on the failed packages only and keeps doing so until you either it has finished all work or no packages successfully emerged in the loop.

I do not follow the warning as I do no prep work (except for solving blockers) for before running the script. This works great and I have rebuilt and upgraded over 600 packages in less than 10 hours. I also took the option of upgrading to gcc-4.1.2 at this time. There are about 10 packages that failed but I will look at them later and rerun the script so it continues trying to build the failed packages.

If you do revdep-rebuild -X it will break Apache-2.

So either do revdep-rebuild -X, followed by unmergeing apr and apr-utils, and reemerge apache, or use revdep-rebuild without -X
