I guess it's not a huge problem, although it irritated me;
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-576529.html
Was rapidly moved to the duplicate forum.

While it may well be duplicating some individual posts in threads regarding other topics, I think this is a reflex move based on the title, rather than a thoughtful decision by the moderator involved. In particular the given example 'duplicated' thread is quite different in nature even if it involves the same keywords.
FYI: here's the PM I just sent to the involved moderator giving my reason.

Hi Think4;

http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-4191862.html#4191862; I really disagree with you moving it and effectively removing it's visibility.

The example duplicate you give is not related; it's a long-running discussion of the future of gentoo-wiki, whereas I'd have hoped even a cursory reading of the opening post would have made it clear that the new thread was focussed on the current, ongoing, outage on gentoo-portage.

There are some references to this outage in other threads, but those are tangential references in topics related to other issues. There is (please prove me wrong) no clear discussion of what has happened to gentoo-portage, or a list of alternatives. Removing this thread form the portage forum and locking it against further additions will not serve the community well, in particular it will increase frustration for those less experienced users who, like me, are currently struggling to get their systems working again following the expat upgrade.

I am seriously unimpressed. EZ.

to keep you satisfied i've changed the DUP-reason to

among others DUP for http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-532769.html, esp. http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-4191758.html#4191758 and following

Both systems (the same physical machine afaik) are not an official part of Gentoo and about whether or not they should be 'official' or not can be found in various threads troughout the forums also, so my DUP-ing was correct in both cases just the referred thread was the wrong one.

We (Gentoo staff) have no influence on theses systems so we cannot tell when they will be up again or even if they'll be ever up again.
