Hello,
It's just 2 months until I'll get 17 and my parents will spend their whole money (well okay, just about 200 €) on buying a new mobile phone for me :-)
My thought was that I'd "need" one on that I can (manually) install Gentoo Linux. Now, there are just two questions about that...:
1. I'm not quite sure if I got this stuff about Linux on mobile phones right, is it possible to install the OS manually?
2. This could really be a bit tricky I fear... Are there such mobile phones which cost not more than 200 €?
3. Is it much harder too install gentoo on such a mobile phone than on a regular computer? (well, ignoring that compiling will need weeks and that the software must be selected carefully)

Just to make sure I don't switch things here... with "mobile phones" I mean devices I can phone other people, write "SMSs", maybe take photos, maybe a way to connect it to my computer (=>distributed compiling), (and all that stuff "normal" mobile phones can do too :D) and which hopefully can use Linux :-)

Thanks in advance for answering any of my questions! :-)

Unless you really want to get into embedded development you don't want to install Gentoo on a mobile phone. If you want to really install Linux on it then use one of the distributions made for embedded devices (even then it will probably be quite tricky).

Your best bet would be Familiar Linux. Works only with ipaq phones though:

Thanks for your answers, but I now think I'd better spend my parents' money on a mobile phone that "just" looks good and can do much stuff :D
I realised that I don't really need linux on my phone (especially if it's not gentoo, any other precompiled linux would be like any "normal" mobile phone OS) if it costs 200 € more than one that can do the same without linux :?
