I need to know if i install gentoo through knoppix, do i need to open ports on my firewall at anytime during the gentoo install. Im planning on downloading the data and ch root to gentoo dir and go from their. thanx

you should be fine if on a firewall. I can only see rsync not working for you and if that occurs just open port 873.

I thought so; now my question is how would I be able to see what my i.p. address is in Knoppix so I can set my firewall accordingly.

I think I got my address with ifconfig 192.168.0.147, my problem now is I can't access my smoothwall to open the port. In the browser it says an error occurred:

An error occurred while loading https://192.168.0.147:441/:
Could not connect to host 192.168.0.147 (port 441).

If anyone knows how to fix this it will be greatly appreciated, Thank You!

dunno as i have never needed to use shortwall firewal, i have custom iptables rule sets. maybe you should stop the shortwall firewall temporaly and then flush all your iptables rules.

Forgot to put solved at top. It was my error it should've been 192.168.0.1:441. Thanx thou!
