I've taken the route you've suggested and now I see the following when trying to start cman ->

ns4 ~ # /etc/init.d/cman start
* Loading cman kernel module ...
FATAL: Module cman not found.
* Failed to load cman kernel module [ !! ]
* Starting cman ...
can't open cluster socket: Address family not supported by protocol
/sbin/cman_tool: The cman kernel module may not be loaded
* Failed to start cman [ !! ]
ns4 ~ #
