|
|
| I'm sure this is already somewhere in the forums; however, I couldn't find the answer I was looking for. When I use 'emerge search openoffice' for example, I get an 'openoffice' and 'openoffice-bin'. What is the difference? I also notice that they are different versions. The -bin appears to be a newer version. Is the -bin just a beta version? |

This is just a binary package, because openoffice is huge, and takes a lot of time to compile (10h on my bi-athlon 1800+). If you have time, just compile it :
If not :
| Code: | | emerge openoffice-bin |
(just fetch the package, and decompress it).
Of course, openoffice.org sources are more "up ot date" than the binary version |

I thought that's what it might be, but I couldn't find it in the forums.
Thanks |
