I have got a few video files which are encoded with a letterboxing for 4:3 aspect ratio, but since I use 16:10 aspect ratio, they get runtime letterboxed at the sides as well. Is there a way to remove the encoded letterboxing? _________________ If you've got nothing nice to say, you're probably not alone... |

Permanently remove it without reencoding, no. But you can remove it during playback. xine based players should have a zoom function somewhere; for mplayer, start it with the following option and then use 'w' and 'e' keys during playback to change the zoom. Code: | mplayer -panscanrange -0.5 somevideo.avi |

That seems to work, but I don't mind reencoding. Is it mencoder I should use, or is there a better alternative? _________________ If you've got nothing nice to say, you're probably not alone... |

Panscan really is the best solution. Re-encoding means loss of quality. _________________ "Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves." - Abraham Lincoln
