|
|
Hi All,
I have had some complaints from some of the devs that users are reporting bugs to the Gentoo bugzilla for packages contained within the Xeffects overlay.
*** This is a big problem ***
You CANNOT report bugs to Gentoo bugzilla when using any overlay package (not just Xeffects). This is bad form to do so, and causes so much grief for those trying to ferret out the real bugs from those contained in the overlay or simple user error.
Please, I beg everyone, if you have any overlay installed, including Xeffects, please follow the guidelines set out by the overlay maintainers for reporting problems and bugs.
For xeffects, here is the acceptable place to report issues:
Xeffects Bugzilla - http://bugs.gentoo-xeffects.org
When reporting bugs, please be sure to include the following:
1) Output of the problem (for compile errors, please include the entire error message)
2) Steps to produce/re-produce
3) Output of emerge --info
4) Any relevant package info - versions installed, etc.
5) Anything else you deem relevant to help describe the problem
Notes:
If the error messages are too long, please attach it to the bug - as a compressed archive, if needed. Please don't use http://rafb.net/paste or some other temporary paste site as that doesn't provide an historic reference
Failure to do the above, likely will mean the issue will not be resolved (or at least not quickly).
If the bug is not related to Xeffects (either we tell you it isn't or you determine it isn't), then you can report to Gentoo bugzilla, but you must not be using the overlay, and verify the problem exists from packages in the main Gentoo tree only. Failure to do so, will mean that your bug will get closed as either invalid or won't fix.
At this moment, please start by searching and asking for help at the gentoo-xeffects forums - http://gentoo-xeffects.org/forums/
Regards,
Rod.

Perhaps a nice MOD will be able to lock the topic and maybe make it a sticky
Cheers,
