I was just at the SpamAssassin.org site and noticed they seem to think it is in portage. I remember that I had to install it from from tar.gz so I went and checked - still no sign of it that I can see. What gives? Here's the link:

It's been in portage since Jun 2002 (SpamAssasin-2.20) it's now at version
2.55 for ~arch and 2.44 for stable.
Under gentoo it is named Mail-SpamAssassin.
Maybe you should try emerge -S when emerge -s gives you no results. |

Good idea. I see what I did - I left the capital 'A' out. Most of the package names are all lower case, so it sort of threw me.
Now I'll have to uninstall the version I'm running and emerge the 'right' one.
Thanks.

Yeah, someone's been a bit naughty with the naming of this ebuild. emerge -S also searches the descriptions (and homepage ??) entries of the ebuild, takes a bit longer but usualy finds what you want if it's there. |

| Any reason that stable Mail-SpamAssassin is "stuck" at 2.44? It's one package I keep hoping to seen when I "emerge -u world" |

Probably because there are developers here that don't like it as much as bogofilter. You can install 2.53 directly from Cspan with very little effort. Go to the SpamAssassin.org website and follow the simple instructions.

Because it's marked unstable.
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge -U Mail-SpamAssassin |

It's there, just still in testing.
| Code: | | # ACCEPT_KEYWORDS=~x86 emerge Mail-SpamAssassin |
It's 2.55 |
